  • Coronary angiography allows doctors to evaluate arteries, locate blockages and diagnose heart disease.
  • Ventricular function tests provide information on the heart's ability to pump blood.
  • Heart valve pressure evaluations give doctors information about the condition of a patient's heart valves.
  • Stress testing determines the amount of stress a patient's heart can take before developing either an abnormal rhythm or signs of ischemia (not enough blood flow to the heart).
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG) measures electrical activity in the heart.
  • Echocardiology provides utlrasonic images of the heart that doctors can use to diagnose heart disease.
  • Peripheral vascular diagnostics helps physicians diagnose peripheral vascular disease.
  • Coronary Computed Tomography Angiogram (CTA) allows physicians to visualize the coronary anatomy without performing cardiac catheterization. CTA is often used for patients who have a low probability of needing an intervention.

The open heart surgery program at Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center offers the following:

  • Advanced technology, including a large screen video monitor that gives the surgical team clear, unobstructed views of a patient's vital statistics throughout the entire procedure.
  • A heart-lung machine that is optimized to conserve a patient's own blood during a procedure so that it can be reinfused instead of using donated blood, helping to make complications less likely.
  • A dedicated, exceptional surgical team that works together, using the same facilities and equipment. The team's familiarity with each other and their environment helps them maintain a greater focus on patient care.
  • Nurses who are specially trained to care for open-heart surgery patients, from the preoperative period through recovery.
  • A "Dedicated Recovery Unit," staffed by registered nurses who are specially skilled in cardiac recovery care, where patients recover immediately after open-heart surgery.
  • All private rooms, with room service delivery of healthy and delicious meal choices and a complimentary newspaper.
